The English Only Movement goes further in its defense of English as the official language of the United States, for its advocates call for an Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. In the United States, language rights have been treated largely through legislation and litigation, as this discussion demonstrates. Joel Spring discusses the particularities of English Only and the lack of constitutional protections for minority languages in Chapter 2 (Interview 1).
