The report is entitled: “Taking a Stand: Reducing Gun Violence in Our Communities” (see IACP and Joyce Foundation 2008). Recommendations 2, 3, and 4 of the final summit report are most appropriate for involving members of volunteer police units. Recommendation 2 states: “Law enforcement agencies and their partners should work to identify and implement effective education and prevention programs focused on youth at risk of gun violence” (see IACP and Joyce Foundation 2007, 11). The third recommendation states: “Law enforcement agencies and their partners should work to develop and implement education campaigns targeted at gun owners” (see IACP and Joyce Foundation 2007, 11).

It includes materials about local and national organizations. At the national level, the roles of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), and the Coast Guard are briefly considered.
