Among them the most accurate is the Vogel equation. Three viscosity measurements at different temperatures for a specific oil are needed in order to determine the three constants in this equation.

Rotational Viscometers Rotational viscometers are based on the principle that the fluid whose viscosity is being measured is sheared between two surfaces (ASTM D2983). In these viscometers one of the surfaces is stationary and the other is rotated by an external drive and the fluid fills the space in between.
