This quickly changed to ventricular fibrillation. The tracing was recorded during cardiac catheterization on a tape recorder and subsequently played back through a direct writing machine to obtain this tracing.

The tracing shows an initial R wave followed by an attack of ventricular fibrillation lasting about seven seconds. After this there are four P waves indicating a cessation of the ventricular fibrillation and finally the ventricle starts to beat again. This is a common type of tracing to see at the end of an attack of ventricular fibrillation. Ventricular beats return very slowly at perhaps ten or twelve a minute and gradually increase to the usual thirty to forty per minute of complete heart block.
