Graduates with Master's or doctoral level qualifications often achieve slightly higher starting salaries than those graduating from 46 undergraduate courses. Aeronautical engineers often work on an ‘on-call’ basis for consultation, for example if there is a request to change the priority of repairs or modifications, or in emergency investigation.
As traditional engineering becomes more and more influenced by advancements in technology, it is essential that trainee engineers keep up to date with new developments and software packages. Most employers provide training in these areas and the IMechE also regularly runs industry-relevant lectures, seminars and workshops. Training can also be provided by the suppliers of specific software or machinery. The progression route for many engineers will be from graduate or trainee level through to senior engineer and ultimately to a lead engineer role.
Asset management plays a major part in a water engineer's job.
