The ways in which anxiety is experienced and managed may play a powerful role in influencing how an individual responds to situations and challenges arising in their life, and if people have not developed effective ways of managing their anxiety earlier in life, they may have continuing difficulties later on. Extreme or disproportionate anxieties of this sort may be exhibited in a variety of ways, including aggressive and hostile behaviours, hysteria and mania, as well as acute and chronic depression.
